Open Banking & PSD2 Discovery

Client: Bradesco

As a consultant, I led the investigation, analysis, and presentation of Open Banking API standards and PSD2 directives for Bradesco. The work involved deep research into how digital-first banks, including Mettle, Revolut, and others, had designed and implemented their open banking ecosystems. Findings were structured into a comprehensive programme of weekly stakeholder presentations delivered to Bradesco's engineers, product teams, and senior stakeholders, helping the bank accelerate their own implementation by learning from real-world successes and failures in the market.

Case study

Joined the project as a consultant to support Bradesco, one of Brazil's largest banks in their journey of understanding the Open Banking API standards and PSD2 regulatory directives.

The work centred on investigating how digital-first banks such as Mettle, Revolut, and other market leaders had approached their open banking implementations, examining their technical architecture, product decisions, regulatory responses, and the pitfalls they encountered along the way.

Findings were synthesised into a comprehensive, step-by-step discovery deck designed to be accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences. The material covered ecosystem design patterns, authentication flows, consent models, API standards, and lessons learned across multiple implementations.

Rather than a one-off handover, the engagement ran as a weekly presentation series, delivering findings progressively to Bradesco's key stakeholders, engineers, and product teams, with dedicated Q&A sessions to address specific implementation questions and concerns.

The outcome was a significantly accelerated understanding of the open banking landscape for Bradesco, giving the bank a head start on their own implementation by helping them avoid known mistakes and adopt approaches that had already proven effective in the market.
